Olivia Yuen · New Orleans

About

Olivia Yuen is a New Orleans wedding photographer working in digital, 35mm, Polaroid and disposable film, for couples who would rather be seen than styled.

How I work

I photograph weddings in New Orleans on a mix of digital, 35mm, Polaroid and disposable film. The film is not an upsell at the end of the list, it is part of how the day gets covered: slower, grainier, and much better at the hours after dark than anything else I carry.

I studied neuroscience and then social work before this, which sounds like a detour and mostly is not. Both were about paying attention to people, and that is still the job. I am watching for what is actually happening between you rather than arranging you into something that photographs well and feels like nothing.

That matters most for the couples the wedding industry still quietly builds around rather than for. Whatever your family looks like, whoever is walking you down, it gets photographed as it is. Polaroids are handed over on the day, and the film and instant scans come back with the rest of the gallery.
